Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov

It came years ago, Vladimir's first throb of Lolita. The initial shiver of inspiration was somehow prompted by a newspaper story. After that, many drafts were burnt, and the whole idea of writing being disbanded once. It finally took him 5 years to complete it. The struggle was made all the ore bitter by the controversial plot. The story is a good one - contemporary fiction - hard to come by and modern classic. The language and the narration is great. More than the story, it's about the writing style and how the author made it into a modern classic. Somehow, Lolita is hard to get ‘lost’ into, but the one thing that keeps one engrossed, were subversive, tragicomedy and divine language of the author. The book leaves its effect lingering on the reader for a long time and makes one feel numb. Throughout the book, the author mainly explores only the character of Humbert, which makes the reader develop a liking for Humbert. Vladimir should be applauded for this. The reader ends up both hating Humbert for being so full of himself and liking (a strange kind of liking) him. That is a miracle, right there.
